The Hill Country Chorus is a chapter in the
Southwestern District of Champions of the Barbershop Harmony
Society (
BHS ). Chartered in 1973 as 'The Tri-County Chorus', and later known as 'The South Texas Sound', The Hill Country Chorus is comprised of about 40 men from a four-county area in South Texas. Our members hail from New Braunfels, Seguin, San Marcos, Cibolo, San Antonio, Austin, Spring Branch, and Canyon Lake. The chorus is made up of doctors, insurance salesmen, computer technicians, home builders, teachers, and others. Some are retired, others are working to get there!! Currently, we have 36 active members on the risers, and we're
growing steadily!
Throughout the year, we perform for numerous organizations in and around the 4-county area. We regularly visit hospitals and retirement homes, spreading cheer and our unique blend of 4-part harmony. In early November, we're active in the Wurstfest celebration in New Braunfels, with a booth selling "Black Forest Sundaes," sodas, and cameras. Stop by next time you're wandering around the pavilion!
We also participate in July 4th festivities in New Braunfels. You can usually find us in the parade, singing on the square, and at the fireworks display in the evening. We also sing Christmas carols on the square at Christmas, get involved with WassailFest, and our Singing Valentines program grows every year!
We meet Tuesdays, 7pm, at the First Baptist Church, Rice Hall, on Cross Street between Santa Clara and Guenther streets, in New Braunfels ( click here for a map) . Stop by and visit if you're in the area! We'd love to "ring one" with you!! Our doors are always open, and visitors are always welcome, even if you just want to listen!
