The walls of the New Braunfels Bible Church will be ringing with the sounds of four-part a capella harmony on Saturday, August 21 at 7:30 p.m. The Hill Country Chorus and award-winning quartets will be presenting an innovative show.
A lot of barbershop music is old-time tunes, but the four-part chord which is the basis for the barbershop style make modern tunes sound great also. The show will include some of those never-to-be forgotten old time classics, together with popular tunes from the tin-pan alley days right up to the 21st century.
The show will also feature quartets, including Genesis, the contest champion of the Barbershop Harmony Society’s Southwestern District, which includes Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and most of New Mexico and Arkansas. Also on the show bill are quartets formed from the Hill Country Chorus itself.
The Hill Country Chorus is a non-profit organization that distributes all of its profits to help others enjoy vocal music. Additionally, the Chorus and its member quartets provide many free performances to area churches, retirement centers, hospitals and nursing home. Funds were also provided to support music programs in local schools. The Chorus regularly supports the Barbershop Harmony Society’s “Youth In Harmony” program that sends young men and ladies to learn to sing at summer camps. The Chorus also contributes to the Harmony Foundation, an arm of the Barbershop Harmony Society, which supports chorus and quartet singing worldwide. Simply put, these men love singing and they want the whole world to enjoy it also.
